Street vendors

This sketch is about the street vendors of India. The small street vendors are like lifeline in big cities. They sell Tea, Coffee, Tender Coconut, Chaat(Indian chat-time snacks) etc.

They are a good place where most of the people take their break from work. From the labourers to the software professionals take their break from work at these vendors. They also sell cigarettes, so that the smokers also find their times there.

Rangoli

The word Rangoli literally can be translated to english as which can be literally translated to english as Rows of colours. It is the traditional art form in India, which is much similar to the sand painting found in western and other countries. But instead of sand, colourful powders are used in creating beautiful algebraic shapes in front of one's house to welcome gods and guests. (In India guests are considered to be equals to god. There are stories being taught from generation to generation about treating guests with all their share of food even if they starve.)

The powders used in the creation of the Rangoli are normally rice powdered and mixed with colours.

Here is the small rangoli that was made before Deepavali/Diwali day at my office. It was a very good exercise for the eyes to see the real colours in action.

Stray dogs in the street

It has always been a wonder for some or matter of hatred for some others who think about India. They tell you about chaos on traffic, cows, rats and stray dogs to be afraid of in the streets etc.

Well what you have heard is true about this country. But it is not because people of India do not care about their surroundings, but they love the animals just like one would love their dear ones.

In India the cow is worshipped, rats are fed up with milk in temples. It is part of the culture which is built with ages.

Today I captured this image which is synonym to the point I was talking. View them here:

I took the pictures waiting for a bus. The dogs are busy taking rest in the broad daylight besides the people waiting for bus.

Through these sketches, I want to depict the real India. Hope you liked this post from me. Please type in your suggestions, comments (good or bad) in this post.
